Tweaklet #61 – Water

I am focusing again on Water in this episode. I don’t think there is anything more important to our health than drinking water.

It hydrates our cells which means it boosts the body’s ability to regenerate and rejuvenate. It flushes out toxins and prevents our system from getting sluggish and storing things it really should be eliminating.

It also improves the alkalinity of our system and you might remember from other episodes – disease and inflammation thrive on acidity and absolutely cannot live in alkaline conditions. This applies to every type of disease and inflammation so why wouldn’t we do our best to maintain an alkaline system.

Well, there are a couple of practical things about increasing your water intake – some people, like me, need to go to the bathroom a lot when we drink even moderate amounts. Given that we need to spend some time in the day doing other things than visiting the bathroom, it can be an issue.

But I do find that once I’ve been in the habit of upping my water intake, this levels out quite a bit so it’s worth persisting.

Some people say they don’t like the taste of water. To you dear folks, I say “Do your best to build a bridge and get over this hurdle” because this really isn’t a good reason.  Don’t substitute other liquids for water, although some herbal tea is OK and you could make your own lemonade with some freshly squeezed lemon juice, water and stevia to sweeten.

If sparkling water is your thing, some sparkling is OK although carbonation of any kind does rob your blood of oxygen. So bear that in mind.

So what sort of quantity are we talking about – 8 to 10 glasses is a good guide. Keep water with you all the time so that you remember to drink and if need be set a reminder on your phone.

It’s a good idea  to drink a large glass of water when you first wake up before taking anything else in and you can also help curb your appetite by drinking water before a meal.

But basically Tweakleters, just drink a good amount of water throughout each day.  Your body will thank you and you WILL notice a difference in how you feel. Remember, your body is your best guide, so pay attention it will let you know what it needs.

Thanks for watching! I’m off to get a drink of water!

Tweaklet #14 – Avoid Chronic Dehydration

We’ve talked about water before and if you are getting to know me you know as it isn’t the first time it won’t be the last!

Water isn’t just good for you, water burns fat. Water also suppresses hunger. Water renews your skin. Just drinking 1 – 2 litres……or 8 to 12 ounces of pure water every day can help you drop fat, have more energy, and save your kidneys and liver from working too hard.

Why do I say that? Well, when you don’t drink enough water your kidneys have to work too hard and then your liver has to take over.

Now, listen carefully….. your liver is your number one fat-burning organ. So we want it to stay focused on that task right? So do you REALLY want it processing liquids and toxins rather than BURNING FAT? No! of course not! So work with me here….. grab a glass of water, and watch the results. If you consistently up your daily water intake within a few short weeks, there will be a noticeable change in your face – expect it to look smoother, brighter and less lined and your body should look less bloated and your skin less crepey. You’ll be feeling lighter and easier, maybe thinking clearer and sleeping better…. Pay attention and watch for all the good signs that some with better hydration.

So that’s today’s Tweaklet – tiny food tweaks that make all the difference. Remember to subscribe to the Tweaklets YouTube channel to keep watching.

Tweaklet #1 – Water

Water … yep firstly most of us don’t drink enough of it – that’s not too much of a surprise – but secondly, it could help us eat less and lose weight. Really? Yep. Keep watching.

So how much water should we drink? Around 2 litres per day, or for our non-metric friends, that’s eight 8 ounce glasses. Depending on whether I’m at home, or out and about, I might not make my quota, sometimes not even close. But like any tweaklet, just tweak what you’re doing now and give it your best shot.

Honestly, there’s really no argument for NOT drinking water and ‘I don’t like the taste of it’ doesn’t cut it – add some fruit or find a natural hydration flavour sachet you can add. Maybe some fizzy water if you have to.

Around 60% of our bodies are made up of water so our cells need it for hydration and renewal. It makes our skin glow and not get all withered up and wrinkly and, most importantly, water helps us poop!

Plus if you drink a glass of water before a meal, you cut out those hunger pangs and because you’ll feel fuller you naturally won’t want to eat as much. Do that consistently and you are going to lose weight. So there’s today’s tweaklet – drink more water and look younger, brighter, poop better and lose weight!
